Just for Fun Friday (On Tuesday!) - Fruit Kabobs!

The Setting: Applebee's Restaurant.
What: Surprising our kids with dessert for being such great kiddos and getting their morning chores done before school (without complaining!) all week.
The Conversation: Asking each child what their best part of the day was.
The Expectation: That they'd all answer getting to go out for dessert was the best part of their day.
The Surprise: That Connor's favorite part of the day was our after school snack.

So you might ask yourself, what kind of snack could beat out an ooey gooey ice cream treat? You might be surprised to know that it was FRUIT KABOBS!

This really is such a fun, tasty, and EASY way to use up all that Bountiful Basket fruit. My kids loved getting involved and creating their own snack. It's as simple as cutting your fruit into chunks and letting the kiddos kabob it onto skewers. If you don't have large skewers you could use toothpicks for mini versions as well. You could even jazz it up a bit by cutting some of the fruit out with cookie cutters.

So, even though it's not Friday (I didn't get this done fast enough last week), I wanted to share this before Thanksgiving because I think this would be a great side dish/salad to take to your festivities. You could take them all pre-made or use this idea as an activity/appetizer for the kids.

ENJOY!

just for fun friday- Jack-O-Lantern TORTILLAS

Want to be the coolest mom in the neighborhood?  Try making these for an afternoon snack.
They were a real hit!
Jack-O-Lantern Cinnamon Sugar Tortillas
  1.  Butter your whole tortilla. (REAL butter, if you ask me!)
  2. THEN, with a sharp paring knife, cut out your jack-o-lantern face. I'm sure you can get more creative than I did.
  3. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
  4. Broil in the oven for a few minutes. Watch them closely. They go from not done to done, fast!
  5. Enjoy! My kids sure did!
*If we would have had some of the small tortillas left, I would have used those. Then each child could have had their own.

DON'T FORGET...The Giveaway ends tomorrow! Hurry on over and get signed up now!

Painting with Produce!

My kids and I are visiting my family this week and we brought our acorn squash with us hoping it would get eaten here. Well, with two other sisters with acorn squash from their baskets, we had PLENTY!

So, in an effort to stick to my goal of not throwing ANYTHING away, I came up with this idea...
The kids had a blast!
Even though the shape of the squash didn't transfer to the paper quite as well as I had envisioned, the kids loved painting with something other than plain old paint brushes.
By the time we were done, we had dug apples and celery out of the fridge too.
The options are endless.
What a great (and MESSY) activity!
This is one we will definitely be doing again.

If you try Painting with Produce or any other fun activity with your produce, send us pictures and we'll pass the idea along!

And if you STILL have acorn squash left after this activity and haven't tried THIS recipe, you should. YUM!
P.S. THEN...we baked and ate the seeds for a snack. They taste just like pumpkin seeds.
Good stuff!
